GPS Stone Trip Recorder iPhone app Review

Description:

This location and navigation app was created to help you record and export all of your different trips so that you can manage them with your choice of geo-tagging or photo tagging edits.  You can watch the map while you are traveling to see your trip in real time and see your current speed in mph or km/h.   This app will even let you see what your maximum speeds were during the trip as well as your overall average speed.  You can also see the altitude of your  location as well as the total distance traveled and the direction you were going the entire time.  Once you have recorded the trip you can edit the details or delete it if you decide you don’t want that information anymore.

Features:

• This GPS based location app has a few main features that help set it apart from other navigation apps that are out there on the mobile market today
• One of these is that you can actually take you GPX and send it by mail
• You can also choose your different units of measurement for your recorded trips.  This would include mph or km/h
• Once you have created a trip you can either keep it in your log or you can rename it if you would like.  You also have the ability to delete any old trips that you don’t use anymore
• There is also a built in compass to this app so you can always know what direction you are traveling and essentially never be lost
• You can record your speeds for any trip that you take.  You can see instant speeds, the max speeds you went, as well as your overall average speed for the entire trip
• If you get a phone call in the middle of your trip recording then you can auto-restart your recording as soon as you get off the phone
• You can watch the map and see exactly where you are traveling if you want to
• Once you have recorded your trip you can edit the information and put the exact date and time of each trip

Conclusion:

This is a very simple navigation and while it has some notable features, it is not nearly as good as a lot of the other free apps out there.  If you are going to get a free navigation app for the Android you are better off looking into the Google GPS Navigation ones.  But if you aren’t picky about your location apps then this one is as good as any.

Drive Safe.ly Android app Review

Description:

Texting while driving is illegal in a lot of different places.  However, it is in our nature to want to look and see what someone has texted or emailed us.  Curiosity usually always wins in these situations, even if it means jeopardizing our own safety.  Well now you can satisfy your curiosity without having to worry about any head on collisions.  The Drive Safe.ly Android app is a navigation app that has been created to read you your SMS text messages and your emails to  you while you drive. You can even have the app read to you who it is on the Caller ID.  The voices that read the messages sound very natural and are easy to understand.   Overall, this is a great app to use to text and drive, without ever texting and driving.

Features:

• This is a great app for anyone that is addicted to texting or emailing while driving.  This app will actually read your emails and texts to you so that you don’t have to take the time to look down and read them and jeopardize the lives of everyone in the car
• You can even screen your caller ID while the app reads it out loud while you are driving
• You can designate some pre-generated responses that you can have the app send back to your friends or family while you are driving without having to text
• The sound quality of the messages that are read outloud is really impressive.  It is very clear and sounds like a friend sitting across from you and not super robotic like Text-To-Speech apps
• This app will make your driving experience much safer than it would be if you tried to write these people back yourself while driving
• This app is actually compatible with a variety of different kinds of phones but works especially well on the Android operating system
• You will need to set up your email integration before hand so that you don’t have to mess with it in the car

Conclusion:

The Drive Safe.ly app does a very good job of helping you to have a safer and more LEGAL ride in your car while still being able to communicate.    You do have to do some setup work before you start using it though, including making some pre-generated responses and setting up  your email account.  The really impressive part about this app, however, is the voice narration that reads your texts to you.  The voice sounds very conversational and you feel like your best friend is in the car next to you and offered to read it for you while you were driving.  Kind of a breath of fresh air when you compare it to the other text-to-speech apps that sound like cold hearted machines.  If you get frequent texts and emails while driving and just can’t wait til the next stoplight to look at them then try downloading this app and checking it out.

WHERE Android app Review

Description:

Whatever you are looking for, you will find it with the WHERE Android app.  This GPS based location app does a great job at making all of the local hot spots extremely accessible for you to be able to check out.  You can read reviews on your favorite restaurants, shopping centers, gas stations, and so much more.  Have you even wondered what movies are playing and at what times?  With the WHERE app you can look up local movie theatres, see what times they are playing movies, what movies are playing, and the ratings and reviews for each.    If you are low on gas you can get pricing information on a variety of different locations so that you don’t end up spending too much money on fuel.  You can even find out specific weather information as well as local news headlines that are happening near you.

This app is very easy to use and you can navigate fairly easy around the search screen to find the activities that you are looking for.  You can even customize these channels so only your favorites show up on the main page.  There is also a friend feature option where you can look up where your friends are located.  All in all this is one of the best search utilities available to you on the Android.

Features:

• You can get reviews on restaurants, local gas prices, news in your hometown, movie times and ratings, local or out of state weather info as well as find the location of your friends
• Has a complete local search ability through GPS, making it a great utility for both the travelers and the stationary
• You are able to write reviews on any of the results that are brought up so that other people can read them and decide to do the activity.  You can also read other’s reviews before you go out and try a new hot spot
• You can also find information out about traffic and road congestion as well as use the ZipCar finder
• Has a little bit of a social networking feel with the ability to write on the “Where Wall” message board.  You can comment on specific things like News Headlines or even the weather

Conclusion:

For this being a free app it actually has quite a bit to offer as far as being a navigation app.  One of the better Android apps out there because of this perk.  The review and ratings feature is nice so that you can see what other people are writing about the activities you are going to do, or the businesses you are going to shop at.  You can stay connected to other users over the message board and it is a good way to share info.  Overall, this is a solid app for finding stuff do in your spare time, definitely worth a closer look!
